Adolescent & Teen Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, or nose job surgery, is a commonly sought procedure to help the patient achieve a more balanced appearance when the nose seems disproportional or some other condition causes problems. At times, a functional concern that disrupts breathing can make rhinoplasty necessary. There are some young people who wish to undergo cosmetic rhinoplasty due to concerns about their appearance. Acceptance amongst peers is vitally important in the adolescent and teen years, and appearance plays a large part.
When cosmetic concerns or functional issues are involved, Dr. Dayan always meets with the young person and their parents or guardians to listen to their point of view. While cosmetic surgery is not a frequent occurrence with young people, aside from repairs due to trauma, it is possible in certain situations. At Avance Plastic Surgery Institute in Reno/Tahoe, NV, we try to be accepting and accommodating to our patients’ concerns about their appearance.
This is why Dr. Dayan does offer adolescent and teen rhinoplasty as an option. The formative “tweenage” and teenage years can be difficult enough without enduring teasing and bullying because of one’s appearance. When parents and the adolescent feel strongly about the need for cosmetic nose surgery, Dr. Dayan can perform adolescent and teen rhinoplasty.
Adolescent Nose Job Surgery
Adolescent nose job surgery can also be performed to correct defects in nasal development, such as a deviated septum or breathing issues. The nose can also develop asymmetrically over time, causing concern for aesthetic effects. The determining factor for performing adolescent nose job surgery is the patient’s stage of development.
The nose must be fully formed before any surgery can be considered. Development usually differs for boys and girls, and Dr. Dayan can determine if the proper nasal development has occurred that would make surgery viable. The normal age for this typically occurs by age 14. Adolescent and teen rhinoplasty is available at Avance Plastic Surgery Institute in Reno/Tahoe, NV.
