Masseter Reduction
The masseter muscles are powerful jaw muscles that also impact the shape of the face. Located on the outside of the lower face, the masseter muscles connect the lower jaw to the skull forming the outside of the outer jawline. Men tend to have more pronounced masseter muscles, creating a square or “masculine” jaw. When women have larger masseter muscles, it can make a round or square face. As part of our medical spa treatments at Avance Plastic Surgery Institute, we offer masseter reduction to create a more feminine or slimmer look at our clinic in Reno/Tahoe, NV.
Reducing the size of the masseter muscles can have a dramatic impact on the shape of the face. When the masseter muscles are slimmer, the jaw tapers, and the face becomes more oval and heart-shaped, a desirable objective for many women. This can be achieved through plastic surgery. An incision can be made inside the mouth to access and trim the masseter muscle surgically. Dr. Erez Dayan, our plastic surgeon and medical director, prefers a minimally invasive aesthetic approach when possible, including masseter reduction.
Botox Injections for Face/Jaw Slimming
Botox injections are the preferred option to perform masseter reduction. This method is non-invasive and effective for most patients desiring a slimmer face or jaw. The treatment includes a series of Botox injections to relax the masseter muscle. Within a week, there may be a slight reduction in the jaw’s width. Over several weeks and months, the masseter muscle can shrink, narrowing the jaw and changing the facial shape. In many cases, the results are permanent and do not require ongoing Botox injections after the initial series of treatments.
If you are unhappy with the shape of your face and want to slim or narrow the width of your jaw, masseter reduction treatment may be right for you.
